Lawrence J. Clark’s classes at North American College, Fall 2011!

Greetings, and Merry Day After Christmas!

This blog is usually devoted to my school and library programs, but I had so much fun teaching my students at North American College this semester that I just had to share!

Click on this link to see a cool video I made:

Lawrence J. Clark’s classes at North American College, Houston, TX-Fall 2011

North American College is a brand new 4-year college located in Houston, Texas.

You can find more information about the school here; I’ve also printed the school’s mission statement and core values below:

Mission Statement

North American College, as an institution of higher learning, is committed to providing a nurturing environment for the systematic pursuit of academic and career-related learning, professional and personal development, responsible citizenship, and global cultural competency. The college aims to achieve these goals through instruction, scholarly inquiry, the free discussion and dissemination of ideas, and creative activity.

Core Values

The following core values should guide all members of the college community as they strive to achieve individual and joint goals.

Learning – Dedication to the discovery, construction, discussion and dissemination of knowledge and its real-world applications.
Honesty and Integrity – Commitment to truth and consistency in one’s actions and communication.
Leadership – Courage and commitment to lead with integrity, innovation and openness to new ways of thinking and inquiry.
Teamwork – Pursuit of excellence through consultation and collaboration.
Ethical and Professional Conduct – Pursuit of high ethical and professional standards in every endeavor.
Human Dignity – Recognition that every human being is unique and valuable, and has something of value to contribute to the college environment and society at large.

Thanks for stopping by my blog–look for info on two new school assembly program topics coming soon:

  • The Secret to Becoming a Super Successful Student (Jr. High/High School/College)
  • The Amazing Adventures of Cabeza de Vaca (4th-6th grade)

See you next time, and remember that reading is your key to success!

Had a great time at the Central Texas Library System showcase!

Howdy, Folks,

It was great seeing many of my speaker/performer and librarian friends at the Central Texas Library System showcase in Georgetown!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Around 20 people got to do showcases, and I received some great feedback on my educational school and library programs and writing workshops that entertain kids and teens and help promote literacy.

Singing Poet Guy Spring 2010 Newsletter

Greetings, and welcome to springtime!

The birds are chirping, the air is warming up, and I am looking forward to seeing many of you in your schools and libraries this year; I will also once again have a booth at the Texas Library Association conference next month, so if you are there, please stop by and say “Hi!”

I will be doing several readings/performances of my one-man music/poetry/storytelling show across the country this spring and summer, but I still have a few slots open, so please give me a call or send an email to see if we can add your school or library to the list.  Also, I am in the midst of booking for the 2010-2011 school year, so contact me soon to get the best selection of dates!

Please follow the links below to see descriptions of my school and library assembly programs and writing workshops, listen to .mp3 files, and see me “live” in action on YouTube!  Here are links to 2 videos in particular that might be of interest:

If it has been a while since I’ve visited your school or library, I would love to come back again soon, and if I haven’t been there yet, please email or give me a call so we can arrange a visit!

Also, please remember that I have programs available for all ages (pre-K through “seasoned” citizens) and that I can develop custom programs for special events, holidays, library and PTA fundraisers, etc.  I am also available for programs at your community center, church, town festival, corporate event, or private function.

As I mentioned in the last newsletter, I am now a CLASS certified speaker and author, and have also earned a CPT (Certified Personality Trainer) certification.  Learning about personality types and learning styles can be extremely useful to teachers as they do their best to reach every one of their students, and can also be helpful for students as they attempt to get along with their classmates, teachers, friends, and family members.  I have developed teacher in-service workshops and student assembly programs based on these concepts, so please contact me if you’d like more information.
My two previous books, The Magic of Mechanics and The Ballad of Dinkle and Other Kids’ Favorites, are both doing well, and I am now working on two books:

1)      a Young Adult novel, Back From the Edge, about my experiences as an at-risk teen who dropped out of high school, but who finally turned my life around and through education, faith, and hard work overcame my circumstances to move on to a successful career as an educator, speaker, and performer.  I am hoping this book will be an inspiration and provide hope to those many teens who feel trapped in their current circumstances.

2)      A book of writing exercises that will help students use their own memories and experiences to create poetry, fiction, and personal essays.

Thanks so much for your support of my efforts to improve literacy among the younger set and to help motivate teens to enjoy their education and achieve their goals!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Singing Poet Guy January 2010 Newsletter

Greetings, and I hope 2010 is starting off as a great year for you!

I look forward to seeing many of you in your schools and libraries this year; I will also once again have a booth at the TX Library Association conference in San Antonio, and possibly at the Texas PTA conference in February, so please stop by and say “Howdy!”

Well, this year The Singing Poet Guy has bit the bullet and learned how to use several web-based technologies, such as MySpace.com, FaceBook.com, and YouTube.com. Please follow the links below to see descriptions of my school and library assembly programs and writing workshops, listen to .mp3 files, and see me “live” in action on YouTube! In the past year I have also attended several workshops and training sessions myself (being the overachiever that I am, having a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. just wasn’t enough education!), and I am now a CLASS certified speaker and author, and have also earned a CPT (Certified Personality Trainer) certification. I will send more info about personality training workshops in my next newsletter.
